One of the first questions I typically receive from a new client is “Why do you use WordPress?”, which, after I explain to them my process, is quickly followed by “What is Genesis and why do you use that?”. I’ll briefly address each of these questions below.
Why do you develop with WordPress?
1. It is what I learned first and know best
My first website was a local daily deal website that I started 2011 and sold in 2013. The framework I used to run the deal site was built on WordPress, so I quickly learned the ins and outs of WordPress. I am very comfortable working within the WordPress structure and I know it much better than any other method, thus it is my go-to solution for all projects.
2. The WordPress Community
The WordPress Community makes it very easy to learn and grow as a developer. There are tutorials from amazing developers for virtually anything I can think to ask. As someone who is self-taught, the WordPress Community has helped me grow to where I am now and I appreciate that.
3. Easy end-user experience
Most of my clients want to manage their websites themselves or from within their company, so they need to be user-friendly on the back end as well as the front end. The flexibility WordPress provides (custom post types, custom options pages, plugins, etc…) partnered with the easy-to-use WordPress dashboard make it an ideal solution for almost every project. If a client needs to change a staff member on their website and they can simply login, go to the ‘Staff’ post type and add a new person with a few click, they are a happy client.
4. Stability & Security
WordPress is a very stable and secure platform. If it is updated regularly and the site is cared for properly there will be no issues. Stability and security is very important.
What is Genesis & why do you use it?
1. What is Genesis?
Genesis is a framework that allows me to efficiently develop sites by taking care of the redundant tasks such as the core code base and basic page structure. It is completely customizable using a variety of hooks and filters and complies with all current coding practices.
2. Documentation, Resources & Forums
StudioPress provides a variety of pre-made themes from respected developers, a well structured documentation section, great development resources and an active forum with other StudioPress developers and users.
3. Stability, Security & Support
Genesis, by StudioPress offers a stable, secure framework that acts as the building block for nearly every site I build. StudioPress received consultation from top WordPress core developers for security audits and their support is second to none.
